THE DNL FIRST STEPS / PRACTICAL GUIDE

Before you apply.
Check the source.

A few useful checks when a remote offer appears in your inbox.

Find the role independently.

Open the employer’s official careers site and look for the role there. Check the company domain rather than relying only on a link in an unsolicited message.

Don’t pay for the promise of a job.

The US Federal Trade Commission warns against recruiters who ask you to pay to get hired. A listing on a board is not a guarantee that someone contacting you represents that employer.

Pause on requests to send money back.

The FTC also warns about fake-cheque job scams in which someone sends a cheque and asks you to forward money or buy equipment or gift cards. Check the official guidance linked below.

Verify who you are dealing with.

Check the recruiter through the employer’s official channels. Take time before sharing sensitive documents or financial details, and talk an unclear offer through with someone you trust.

Use the employer’s application route.

DNL links to the employer’s published advert. We do not collect CVs, application payments or identity documents. If an advert has disappeared, treat it as unavailable until confirmed at source.
