BOSTON, Massachusetts, Boston University School of Law is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join its senior management team. Under the leadership of Dean Angela Onwuachi-Willig, BU Law has climbed into US News & World Reports list of the nation’s top 20 law schools and is now ranked at #17. As a key member of the law schools senior administrative team, the Assistant Dean for Communications, Marketing, & Graduate Admissions leads an 8-to-10-member multi-level organization responsible for advancing the schools reputation through integrated marketing and communication strategies and for growing enrollments and revenue for its LLM, masters degree, certificate, and non-degree programs. Working in close collaboration with the Dean and Vice Dean, the Assistant Dean for Communications is responsible for developing, implementing, and measuring the effectiveness of strategic integrated communication plans intended to raise Boston University School of Laws visibility and promote its reputation to prospective and current students, alumni, donors, external influencers, the hiring marketplace, and other key constituents. The Assistant Dean provides leadership for all of the schools marketing efforts to advance the schools position in the marketplace and support its effective engagement with key constituent groups. Additionally, The Assistant Dean for Communications provides broad oversight of the schools strategy to generate awareness, leads, applications, and enrollments in its non-JD graduate programs, currently numbering approximately 250 FTEs each year. The Assistant Dean is a trusted advisor and partner to the schools faculty and staff and acts as the steward of the schools visual and verbal brand, including how it is applied across print publications, digital communications, public relations, advertising, and more. The Assistant Dean for Communications measures the impact of all initiatives and refines them as needed in order to maximize the return on investment and achieve the law schools goals. A cover letter is required for consideration. Bachelor’s degree required, with preference given to marketing, communications, or similar majors. Master’s degree in business, writing, or a cognate subject strongly preferred. Minimum of 10 years of work experience, preferably in a nonprofit academic institution or similar environment, with a substantial portion falling into at least one (preferably multiple) of the following categories: Marketing, including brand marketing, digital strategy, lead generation, and full customer lifecycle marketing Communications, including news and editorial strategy, public relations, reputation management, and crisis communications Admissions or enrollment management, preferably at the graduate or professional level in programs serving domestic and international students, with particular expertise in top-of-funnel enrollment marketing Minimum 5 years of management experience. Preference will be given to those who have managed multi-level teams (managed managers), but this is not a requirement. Excellent communication skills. Experience with speechwriting and learning another persons voice a plus. Experience using data to evaluate the effectiveness of work approaches, particularly with regard to marketing / communication plans or admissions / recruitment strategies. Demonstrated experience advising executives on crisis communications and matters that have the potential to damage an institutions reputation A proven ability to network, collaborate, and work effectively with people at all levels of the organization, from entry-level staff to senior leadership to peers at BU’s other schools to the University’s central marketing and communications teams.
