The UConn Library seeks a creative and collaborative Marketing and Publicity Assistant to join our Communications and Engagement Team. Working under the Head of Communications and Engagement, the incumbent will be responsible for creating and publicizing marketing and promotional outreach programs for the UConn Library. This requires developing engaging and effective content that targets and effectively impacts the UConn Library’s diverse user, donor, and stakeholder populations across multiple media formats. 
As an active member of the Library and guided by our  Strategic Framework of Connect, Empower, and Engage  the successful candidate will contribute to the advancement of the Library through collaboration and support and demonstrate excellent communication, outreach, and engagement practices while reinforcing the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and justice in daily responsibilities. 
Along with all UConn Library personnel, the Marketing and Publicity Assistant will demonstrate respect in all interactions within the Library and across the University and will exemplify the UConn Library values of kindness and trust, curiosity and inquiry, equity and inclusion, and having fun.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Works with the Head of Communications and Engagement to develop and execute promotional strategies that showcase UConn Library services and programs to a wide audience.
Builds and maintains working relationships and collaborations with UConn Library staff, across all UConn campus locations, to create and edit marketing materials and educational resources across all formats.
Coordinates the marketing work of the Communications and Engagement Unit, serving as a conduit between stakeholders, content creation, design, and disbursement of materials upon completion.
Reinforces the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and justice (DEIAJ) working collaboratively with individuals of diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives in advancing DEIAJ efforts.
Responsible for writing copy for press releases and publicity materials.
Provides website maintenance, management, and creation of promotion related content.
Tracks and assesses digital analytics data and prepares recommendations to enhance publicity activities based on data gathered.
Assists with public relations and promotional activities for the Library, including facilitating special events that include arrangements, logistics, correspondence, and supervision of these events. Plans, organizes, implements, and leads ad hoc or special projects in accordance with library-wide goals.
Manages and creates social media content for the UConn Library.
Provides services/supervises with photography and videography, as assigned, including but not limited to editing, developing, and posting videos and photographs.
May serve as a student supervisor for Communications and Engagement.

Hires, schedules, trains, and supervises student employees. 
Determines work assignments and provides feedback to each student employee. 
Approves student timecards and resolves time reporting and/or student payroll issues in a timely manner. 
Manages student employment budget, providing allocation requests and ensuring student payroll expenditures remain within the approved budget.
Maintains current student employee personnel records.
Adheres to the policies and procedures as outlined in the UConn Library Student Employee Handbook and the UConn Student Employment Guide.

Applies the principles of the Library’s Strategic Framework and core values through active contribution and cooperation in achieving Library, Area, and Unit priorities and operational goals.
Demonstrates reliable and effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills to provide excellent professional service and collaborate with other departments and divisions within the Library and across the University.
Demonstrates active learning in and communication of ongoing trends and developments related to professional and positional responsibilities. 
Works effectively in current office applications, software, and communication tools as employed by the UConn Library and the University of Connecticut.
Exhibits appreciation of, sensitivity to, and respect for a diverse working environment, inclusive of social, economic, cultural, ideological, gender, racial, ethnic, and any other underrepresented backgrounds.
Performs duties parallel to position responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

Bachelor’s degree in a related field and a minimum of two years of related experience.
Demonstrated understanding of best practices in marketing with proven writing, editing, and proofreading abilities necessary to produce high-quality publicity materials.
Demonstrated understanding of graphic design standards and practices including familiarity or experience with Adobe Creative Suite programs, specifically Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop.
Demonstrated understanding of video creation standards and processes including familiarity or experience with Adobe Premiere Pro or other video editing programs.
Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to be creative and flexible when working on collaborative projects.
Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to set priorities and keep to deadlines.
Demonstrated understanding of the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and justice.
Knowledge of and experience with social media tools and strategies in a professional setting.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

Experience developing outreach programs designed to promote programs, events, and services.
Experience creating and updating websites using Aurora WordPress or similar content management software.
Experience with digital photography and video creation.
Experience leading special projects; coordinating and collaborating with internal and external sources.
Demonstrated understanding of effective marketing for higher education user communities.
Evidence of success in promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and justice and working collaboratively with individuals of diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.
Demonstrated ability to provide excellent student supervision.
Expert level use of Adobe Creative Suite programs, specifically Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, or Premiere Pro.

APPOINTMENT TERMS 
This is a full-time position based on the UConn Storrs campus. The University offers a competitive salary, outstanding benefits, including employee and dependent tuition waivers at UConn, and a highly desirable work environment. Salary is dependent upon education, qualifications, and experience. Telecommuting and/or a hybrid work schedule may be possible subject to authorization and University policy.
