GEORGIA / THE DNL CITY GUIDE

Tbilisi.

Courtyard cafés, creative communities and a city with a distinct everyday character. Tbilisi rewards a carefully chosen neighbourhood — and a fresh look at the working-permission rules before you plan a longer stay.

Build your own stay budget +

Start with the reference prices, then change the assumptions to match your trip. Inputs are in GEL; totals use your display currency.

Room starts at long-let rent ÷ 30 + a 35% DNL short-stay allowance, not a researched hotel rate. Replace it with your quote. Travel starts with the reported pass, or 44 single trips where no pass is available. Add a realistic desk and extras allowance to complete the model.

What about a night out?

One mid-range dinner share + two local draught beers comes to about £18.42. This is a calculated example, not a nightlife average; add taxis, club entry and premium drinks separately.

Getting around, without the guesswork.

Transport information ↗

From the airport

Compare the airport’s current bus service with an authorised taxi or booked-car pickup. Keep the address in Georgian for the driver.

Your everyday commute

Metro handles useful cross-city journeys; buses and walking fill the gaps. A steep street can change how walkable an address feels.

Tickets & payment

Check current Metromoney / bank-card acceptance and fare integration through the transport operator.

The local shortcut

Choose housing by a realistic commute. Check heating in winter, cooling in summer, and your actual room’s internet.

ROUTE TO INVESTIGATE

Check work permit and residence requirements

Georgia changed its labour-migration rules from 1 March 2026. The embassy notice includes remote activity in its description of work-permit requirements.

2026 rule change: do not rely on older advice presenting a long visa-free visit as automatic permission to work remotely.

Official requirements & application ↗
  1. 01

Check your work arrangement against the current Labour Migration rules and obtain clarification from the responsible authority.

  2. 02

Use the State Employment Support Agency process where a work permit is required.

  3. 03

Check entry, residence and tax obligations separately. A visa-free visit is not the same question as working permission.

Checked 3 Nov 2026. Eligibility depends on nationality, residence and work arrangements. Check the competent authority before applying; permission to enter, work and become tax resident are separate questions.

CLOSE THE LAPTOP

Make room for the place itself.

06 / THE THINGS THAT MAKE A WEEK WORK

Settle in. Keep the good bits.

Stay connected

Compare Magti, Silknet and Cellfie locally. Check the latest work-permit rules before treating a long visitor stay as permission to work.

Connectivity toolkit ↗

Eat like you live here

Khinkali and khachapuri are local staples, but wheat is central to both. Ask about ingredients rather than relying on dish names for dietary needs.

For allergies, carry a translated dietary card and ask about ingredients and cross-contact.

Pick your season

Spring and autumn often make walking more comfortable. July and August can be hot; winter needs a proper heating check. Conditions on mountain trips differ from the city.

Build your backup

Confirm medical cover for the work and activities you plan. Save local emergency contacts, a nearby clinic and a backup desk before your first working day.

How the nomad ratings work

DNL editorial assessments, not visitor averages or Jake’s personal reviews. Each category uses a 1–5 scale (limited to strong): work setup considers the sourced workspace options; getting around considers the usefulness of transit and walking; everyday value considers the researched cost context; days off considers the range of things to explore. The overall score is the equally weighted mean, rounded to one decimal. These are subjective starting points, not measured Wi-Fi, safety or visa scores.
