ESTONIA / THE DNL CITY GUIDE

Tallinn.

A compact city with a strong startup community and plenty to explore on foot. Tallinn suits a focused working chapter: choose your season, find a comfortable indoor base and keep e-Residency separate from immigration planning.

Numbeo crowd-sourced averages ↗ · source: Jun 2026 · checked 3 Nov 2026. Rent is a long-let reference, not a furnished short-stay quote. Beer serving: Domestic Draft Beer (0.5 Liter).

Build your own stay budget +

Start with the reference prices, then change the assumptions to match your trip. Inputs are in EUR; totals use your display currency.

Room starts at long-let rent ÷ 30 + a 35% DNL short-stay allowance, not a researched hotel rate. Replace it with your quote. Travel starts with the reported pass, or 44 single trips where no pass is available. Add a realistic desk and extras allowance to complete the model.

What about a night out?

One mid-range dinner share + two local draught beers comes to about £43.42. This is a calculated example, not a nightlife average; add taxis, club entry and premium drinks separately.

03 / ARRIVE, THEN GET YOUR BEARINGS

Getting around, without the guesswork.

Transport information ↗

From the airport

Use Tallinn’s official journey planner for the current airport bus or tram connection; routes can change with works.

Your everyday commute

Walking covers much of the centre. Buses and trams connect residential districts and the harbour area.

Tickets & payment

Visitor fares differ from resident arrangements. Check Ühiskaart, QR and contactless options rather than assuming public transport is free for everyone.

The local shortcut

Winter daylight and icy pavements affect the routine. Choose a reliable indoor desk close to home for darker months.

04 / MAKE THE PLACE YOURS

A desk. A good lunch. Somewhere to land.

Sourced starting points, with the practical details one click away.

Save places to find them again in My plan. Confirm prices, room setup and opening hours directly; listings are recommendations to investigate, not personal reviews or live availability.

05 / MAKE IT OFFICIAL

Visas & staying longer.

ROUTE TO INVESTIGATE

Digital-nomad teleworking visa

Estonia’s long-stay visa guidance includes teleworking. The current official page sets out financial evidence and the personal application process.

e-Residency does not give you a right to live in Estonia or replace a visa.

Financial means
EUR 3,960 / month for teleworking
D visa
Up to 365 days within 12 months
Apply
In person through the official route
Official requirements & application ↗
  1. 01

Check teleworking eligibility and the current financial-means requirement on the Ministry’s D-visa page.

  2. 02

Prepare overseas work evidence, recent income documentation, travel medical insurance and the remaining checklist items.

  3. 03

Apply in person at the relevant Estonian representation, or an eligible Police and Border Guard service point.

Checked 3 Nov 2026. Eligibility depends on nationality, residence and work arrangements. Check the competent authority before applying; permission to enter, work and become tax resident are separate questions.

CLOSE THE LAPTOP

Make room for the place itself.

Ideas to explore, not bookable tours. Use the destination source and current local information to check access and conditions.

06 / THE THINGS THAT MAKE A WEEK WORK

Settle in. Keep the good bits.

Stay connected

Compare Telia, Elisa and Tele2. e-Residency is a digital business identity, not immigration permission to live in Estonia.

Connectivity toolkit ↗

Eat like you live here

Balti Jaam is useful for food and everyday shopping. Central restaurant and beer prices can feel closer to northern Europe than bargain-city expectations.

For allergies, carry a translated dietary card and ask about ingredients and cross-contact.

Pick your season

Summer brings long daylight hours. Winter is much darker and can be icy or snowy; choose a warm room and a simple commute. Shoulder-season trips need flexible outdoor plans.

Build your backup

Confirm medical cover for the work and activities you plan. Save local emergency contacts, a nearby clinic and a backup desk before your first working day.

How the nomad ratings work

DNL editorial assessments, not visitor averages or Jake’s personal reviews. Each category uses a 1–5 scale (limited to strong): work setup considers the sourced workspace options; getting around considers the usefulness of transit and walking; everyday value considers the researched cost context; days off considers the range of things to explore. The overall score is the equally weighted mean, rounded to one decimal. These are subjective starting points, not measured Wi-Fi, safety or visa scores.

Sources, dates & the original DNL archive

Each place card links its source. Research and operator pages checked 3 November 2026; individual price observations have their own dates. Area choices, transport-planning tips and ratings are DNL editorial guidance. No personal visit, measured connection speed or customer-review average is implied.
