VIETNAM / THE DNL CITY GUIDE

Ho Chi Minh City.

Coffee, street food and a city that rarely feels still. Ho Chi Minh City suits people who enjoy urban energy: make the commute small, the room quiet and the first week more about finding your routine than seeing everything.

Build your own stay budget +

Start with the reference prices, then change the assumptions to match your trip. Inputs are in VND; totals use your display currency.

Room starts at long-let rent ÷ 30 + a 35% DNL short-stay allowance, not a researched hotel rate. Replace it with your quote. Travel starts with the reported pass, or 44 single trips where no pass is available. Add a realistic desk and extras allowance to complete the model.

What about a night out?

One mid-range dinner share + two local draught beers comes to about £10.27. This is a calculated example, not a nightlife average; add taxis, club entry and premium drinks separately.

Getting around, without the guesswork.

Transport information ↗

From the airport

Tân Sơn Nhất is a busy urban airport. Use official taxi desks or the app’s designated pickup; confirm your terminal and plate.

Your everyday commute

Metro Line 1 links Bến Thành with Suối Tiên, including the Thảo Điền area. It can help with a suitable home-to-desk route, but it does not cover every district or the airport. Use booked cars for other legs.

Tickets & payment

Check current metro payment arrangements and bus options through official city information. Keep small notes for occasional cash purchases.

The local shortcut

Cross roads carefully and leave time for a short journey in peak traffic. Choose a workspace near home if you have daily video calls.

05 / MAKE IT OFFICIAL

Visas & staying longer.

ROUTE TO INVESTIGATE

Entry e-Visa; check separate working permission

Vietnam’s official e-Visa portal explains entry applications. An entry permission alone does not establish permission for your particular work activity.

The guide does not treat a tourist or e-Visa entry as a digital-nomad work authorisation.

Checked
3 November 2026
Official requirements & application ↗
  1. 01

Check passport eligibility, entry points, permitted stay and the correct purpose through the Immigration Department.

  2. 02

If an e-Visa suits your visit, submit the form and passport details through the official portal and pay its fee.

  3. 03

For a working stay, ask the competent authority about your remote-work arrangement before relying on visitor entry.

Checked 3 Nov 2026. Eligibility depends on nationality, residence and work arrangements. Check the competent authority before applying; permission to enter, work and become tax resident are separate questions.

CLOSE THE LAPTOP

Make room for the place itself.

Allow time for a thoughtful visit and check current admission information.

06 / THE THINGS THAT MAKE A WEEK WORK

Settle in. Keep the good bits.

Stay connected

Compare Viettel, VinaPhone and MobiFone. Ask about individual-room internet, air conditioning and power interruptions before a longer booking.

Connectivity toolkit ↗

Eat like you live here

Balance neighbourhood cơm or noodle meals with international restaurants. Fish sauce, soy sauce and shared preparation need specific allergy questions.

For allergies, carry a translated dietary card and ask about ingredients and cross-contact.

Pick your season

Expect tropical heat. The roughly December-to-April dry season often makes walking simpler; the wetter months need room for heavy showers and a dry route to your desk.

Build your backup

Confirm medical cover for the work and activities you plan. Save local emergency contacts, a nearby clinic and a backup desk before your first working day.

How the nomad ratings work

DNL editorial assessments, not visitor averages or Jake’s personal reviews. Each category uses a 1–5 scale (limited to strong): work setup considers the sourced workspace options; getting around considers the usefulness of transit and walking; everyday value considers the researched cost context; days off considers the range of things to explore. The overall score is the equally weighted mean, rounded to one decimal. These are subjective starting points, not measured Wi-Fi, safety or visa scores.
