INDONESIA / THE DNL CITY GUIDE

Canggu, Bali.

Surf before the laptop, café lunches and a ready-made remote-work scene. Canggu can deliver that rhythm, but traffic and the exact location of your room make a bigger difference than a Bali-wide budget suggests.

Numbeo crowd-sourced averages ↗ · source: 31 October 2026 · checked 3 Nov 2026. Bali-wide proxy; Canggu short stays and cafés can cost more. Rent is a long-let reference, not a furnished short-stay quote. Beer serving: Domestic draught beer (1 pint).

Build your own stay budget +

Start with the reference prices, then change the assumptions to match your trip. Inputs are in IDR; totals use your display currency.

Room starts at long-let rent ÷ 30 + a 35% DNL short-stay allowance, not a researched hotel rate. Replace it with your quote. Travel starts with the reported pass, or 44 single trips where no pass is available. Add a realistic desk and extras allowance to complete the model.

What about a night out?

One mid-range dinner share + two local draught beers comes to about £13.94. This is a calculated example, not a nightlife average; add taxis, club entry and premium drinks separately.

03 / ARRIVE, THEN GET YOUR BEARINGS

Getting around, without the guesswork.

Transport information ↗

From the airport

Book airport transport with a clear pickup instruction. Allow a generous arrival window: the road journey to Canggu is traffic-dependent.

Your everyday commute

There is no local metro or rail commute. Choose a small home–desk–food triangle. Grab and Gojek can help with trips, but local pickup rules and road congestion affect convenience.

Tickets & payment

Compare the full car or bike-taxi quote in the app. A Bali-wide bus fare is not a realistic Canggu commuting budget.

The local shortcut

Check pavement access, road lighting and noise in person before booking a long stay. Only ride a scooter with the right licence, insurance and helmet.

ROUTE TO INVESTIGATE

E33G is intended for work carried out for a company outside Indonesia. The official guidance requires an overseas employment contract and financial evidence.

E33G does not permit work or payment from Indonesian individuals or entities. Check your fit if you freelance rather than hold the required employment contract.

06 / THE THINGS THAT MAKE A WEEK WORK

Settle in. Keep the good bits.

Stay connected

Compare Telkomsel and XL coverage. Ask about room Wi-Fi, power backup and whether the quiet workspace is air-conditioned.

Connectivity toolkit ↗

Eat like you live here

Western brunches and beach venues can cost much more than warung meals. Check whether a menu price adds tax and service.

For allergies, carry a translated dietary card and ask about ingredients and cross-contact.

Pick your season

The broadly drier season runs roughly April to October; November to March is usually wetter. Rainfall varies, and humidity, traffic and room ventilation matter in either season.

Build your backup

Confirm medical cover for the work and activities you plan. Save local emergency contacts, a nearby clinic and a backup desk before your first working day.

How the nomad ratings work

DNL editorial assessments, not visitor averages or Jake’s personal reviews. Each category uses a 1–5 scale (limited to strong): work setup considers the sourced workspace options; getting around considers the usefulness of transit and walking; everyday value considers the researched cost context; days off considers the range of things to explore. The overall score is the equally weighted mean, rounded to one decimal. These are subjective starting points, not measured Wi-Fi, safety or visa scores.
