THAILAND / THE DNL CITY GUIDE

Bangkok.

Big-city energy with a very workable daily rhythm — if you stay near the right station. Bangkok pairs an enormous food scene with professional workspaces; let the rail map shape your address before you fall for a rooftop view.

Build your own stay budget +

Start with the reference prices, then change the assumptions to match your trip. Inputs are in THB; totals use your display currency.

Room starts at long-let rent ÷ 30 + a 35% DNL short-stay allowance, not a researched hotel rate. Replace it with your quote. Travel starts with the reported pass, or 44 single trips where no pass is available. Add a realistic desk and extras allowance to complete the model.

What about a night out?

One mid-range dinner share + two local draught beers comes to about £17.68. This is a calculated example, not a nightlife average; add taxis, club entry and premium drinks separately.

Getting around, without the guesswork.

Transport information ↗

From the airport

From Suvarnabhumi, Airport Rail Link connects with BTS at Phaya Thai and the MRT near Makkasan / Phetchaburi. Don Mueang has different connections. Check the airport and onward station before booking a transfer.

Your everyday commute

Build your day around BTS and MRT stations. A short rail trip is often more predictable than a cross-city car journey at peak time.

Tickets & payment

BTS, MRT and airport services can have different ticket and payment arrangements. Check the operator before assuming one pass covers everything.

The local shortcut

Use canal or river services for suitable routes, but check the pier and last departure. Leave extra time for thunderstorms and crossings on foot.

ROUTE TO INVESTIGATE

Destination Thailand Visa (DTV)

DTV includes a workcation category for eligible remote workers. Check the exact evidence requested by the Thai embassy handling your application.

  2. 02

For the London mission, prepare work / portfolio evidence, proof of funds and the current police-clearance requirement, alongside passport and other checklist items. Requirements differ by mission.

  3. 03

Apply while outside Thailand through the official process, pay the stated fee and wait for approval before relying on the visa.

Checked 3 Nov 2026. Eligibility depends on nationality, residence and work arrangements. Check the competent authority before applying; permission to enter, work and become tax resident are separate questions.

CLOSE THE LAPTOP

Make room for the place itself.

Chao Phraya by boat

Choose a riverside stop and check the boat service home before setting off.

06 / THE THINGS THAT MAKE A WEEK WORK

Settle in. Keep the good bits.

Stay connected

AIS and True have prepaid options. In a condo, ask whether the room has its own router or shared-building Wi-Fi.

Connectivity toolkit ↗

Eat like you live here

Yaowarat is an evening food destination. Try quieter neighbourhood food courts for a repeatable working-day lunch.

For allergies, carry a translated dietary card and ask about ingredients and cross-contact.

Pick your season

Expect heat year-round. November to February is often more comfortable for walking; the wetter part of the year brings heavy showers. Plan a shaded commute and reliable cooling at your desk.

Build your backup

Confirm medical cover for the work and activities you plan. Save local emergency contacts, a nearby clinic and a backup desk before your first working day.

How the nomad ratings work

DNL editorial assessments, not visitor averages or Jake’s personal reviews. Each category uses a 1–5 scale (limited to strong): work setup considers the sourced workspace options; getting around considers the usefulness of transit and walking; everyday value considers the researched cost context; days off considers the range of things to explore. The overall score is the equally weighted mean, rounded to one decimal. These are subjective starting points, not measured Wi-Fi, safety or visa scores.
