INDONESIA / THE DNL CITY GUIDE

Bali.

Bali offers very different working weeks depending on where you settle. Compare Ubud, Sanur and the southern coast, allow for traffic, and confirm the internet and workspace setup at the actual property.

Numbeo crowd-sourced averages ↗ · source: 31 October 2026 · checked 3 Nov 2026. Bali-wide proxy; Canggu short stays and cafés can cost more. Rent is a long-let reference, not a furnished short-stay quote. Beer serving: Domestic draught beer (1 pint).

Build your own stay budget +

Start with the reference prices, then change the assumptions to match your trip. Inputs are in IDR; totals use your display currency.

Room starts at long-let rent ÷ 30 + a 35% DNL short-stay allowance, not a researched hotel rate. Replace it with your quote. Travel starts with the reported pass, or 44 single trips where no pass is available. Add a realistic desk and extras allowance to complete the model.

What about a night out?

One mid-range dinner share + two local draught beers comes to about £13.94. This is a calculated example, not a nightlife average; add taxis, club entry and premium drinks separately.

02 / FIND YOUR EVERYDAY

A good base starts with the right street.

01

Ubud

A greener inland routine, wellness activities and dedicated coworking.

Worth checking Traffic and narrow roads mean a short map distance may take longer than expected.Explore this area ↗
02

Sanur

Coastal walks and a calmer beach-based week.

Worth checking Compare workspace options near the actual accommodation rather than across the island.Explore this area ↗
03

Seminyak

Restaurants, beach sunsets and a more social evening scene.

Worth checking Allow for traffic and nightlife noise; it is a different routine from Ubud.Explore this area ↗

Neighbourhood suggestions are editorial. Check the exact street, building and commute before committing to a long stay.

03 / ARRIVE, THEN GET YOUR BEARINGS

Getting around, without the guesswork.

Transport information ↗

Arrange the airport transfer

Ngurah Rai airport is in southern Bali. Confirm the pickup point, luggage and destination in advance; an Ubud arrival is a different journey from a nearby southern beach.

Choose one daily base

Bali is an island, not one walkable city. Keep accommodation, groceries and workspace in the same area so daily trips do not consume the working day.

Agree the actual journey

Use licensed taxis, a booked driver or established ride-hailing services where permitted. Confirm pickup restrictions and the price in the app or with the driver.

Do not assume scooter access

Only ride with the correct licence and insurance for the vehicle. Walking routes, footpaths and lighting vary; choose a nearby workspace if you will not ride.

ROUTE TO INVESTIGATE

E33G remote-worker limited-stay visa

E33G is intended for work carried out for a company outside Indonesia. The official guidance requires an overseas employment contract and financial evidence.

E33G does not permit work or payment from Indonesian individuals or entities. Check your fit if you freelance rather than hold the required employment contract.

Official requirements & application ↗
  1. 01

Check the E33G requirements on the official immigration portal, including the current income and funds thresholds.

  2. 02

Prepare your overseas employment contract, passport and recent bank evidence.

  3. 03

Apply through Indonesia’s official e-Visa channel and follow its entry and limited-stay activation instructions.

Checked 3 Nov 2026. Eligibility depends on nationality, residence and work arrangements. Check the competent authority before applying; permission to enter, work and become tax resident are separate questions.

CLOSE THE LAPTOP

Make room for the place itself.

Sanur seafront

A change of pace for a coastal walk; allow time for the journey from another base.

06 / THE THINGS THAT MAKE A WEEK WORK

Settle in. Keep the good bits.

Stay connected

Compare Telkomsel, XL and Indosat coverage at the exact accommodation. Ask for recent upload and video-call tests, backup power arrangements and whether heavy rain affects access.

Connectivity toolkit ↗

Eat like you live here

Local warungs and groceries produce a very different budget from imported brunch menus and beach clubs. Check service charges and taxes on menus before comparing prices.

For allergies, carry a translated dietary card and ask about ingredients and cross-contact.

Pick your season

Wet and dry periods change the daily routine; rain can disrupt journeys and outdoor plans. Check local conditions and Nyepi dates before arranging arrivals or work calls.

Build your backup

Confirm medical cover for the work and activities you plan. Save local emergency contacts, a nearby clinic and a backup desk before your first working day.

How the nomad ratings work

DNL editorial assessments, not visitor averages or Jake’s personal reviews. Each category uses a 1–5 scale (limited to strong): work setup considers the sourced workspace options; getting around considers the usefulness of transit and walking; everyday value considers the researched cost context; days off considers the range of things to explore. The overall score is the equally weighted mean, rounded to one decimal. These are subjective starting points, not measured Wi-Fi, safety or visa scores.
